I replaced a defectivie sound card, and now I am back to having
another of the dreaded interrupt conflicts (I think). I need
help unravelling it.

I am running Red Hat 6.1, with kernel 2.2.12-20.
As I understand, this has PnP support built in. Am I
right so far?

The modem is PnP, on ttyS2, and was working before I switched
sound cards, on an earlier relase without PnP support. It was using
IRQ5, and there was a setserial to this effect. I tried with and
without this command, to no avail. My /var/log/messages shows
PnP recognizing the modem and sound cards, and shows how it
set up the sound card, but says nothing about
how it set up the modem. I says it gave IRQ 5 to the sound card.

Later, when starting the serial driver, it shows ttyS2 getting
IRQ4, the default, which conflicts with ttyS0, where my mouse
is.

I could do a setserial to something else, but how do I know what
interrupt isapnp configured the board to use? And why doesn't
this information get automatically communicated to the serial
driver, the way it apparently does for the sound driver?

I can get a CD player to play an audio CD, and a mixer application
to change the CD volume and master volume. I presume this
means the sound card is working.

Here are what I think are the relevant excerpts from /var/log/messages:
