I have a machine with 2 SCSI Jaz drives. My entries in /etc/fstab
for these say noauto. It used to be I could boot without packs
in the drives, just getting "device not configured" messages, but
the boot would continue.

Now, after upgrading to Red Hat 6.1, it appears to be insisting on
a successful fsck on these drives. Failing that, it give me a choice
to give the superuser password or Ctl-D to reboot (which, of course,
repeats the problem).

What is strange is that the floppy works as I want, i.e., it too
has "noauto" in /etc/fstab, and the boot process is quite
happy to continue when fsck on that gives "device not configured".
/etc/fstab has not changed in a long time on this machine.

1) query the current run level?

2) manually switch to a different run level?
