A /segment/ation fault is basically an improper memory access. The
immediate cause is software (the program tries to access memory that
it shouldn't).  Whether there's a hardware problem (memory, say)
behind _that_ bug is optional.

And the beast shall come forth surrounded by a roiling cloud of vengeance.  
The house of the unbelievers shall be razed and they shall be scorched to
the earth. Their tags shall blink until the end of days.
