I'd try Word Perfect 8 or the word processor from StarOffice.  I think
either will create (export) or edit (import) documents into MS Word file
format.

I think there are some minor restrictions (at least with StarOffice, certain
MS Word templates didn't work), but I'd expect most average documents to
work ok.
