The modem is linked to cua1 (I think that's what it was - I had most of one
eye open at the time). I'm hoping that the modem is okay since it's so
old. I don't think there was such a thing as a winmodem then.

ATA
in minicom?
I think there's also a way to send raw modem commands to the device,
possibly 'echo ATA' > /dev/ttyS1; but I might be mistaken (never tried
it).
