Hmm, I have a deja-vu sort of feeling...  (I feel I've answered this
exact e-mail before but my reader indicates otherwise.)

Anyway, there is a performance advantage if you have several smaller
partitions across different drives.  There is no benefit if all of the
smaller partitions are on the same drive.
