i think the way it is read is "X Windows for the MIPS port of linux"..  ie:
as in the mips port of linux, as apposed to the intel port, or the Alpha
port, or Dorito port or whatever type of "chip" you have!  : ^ )

(my favorite is the Ranch Dorito 2000...  : ^ )
