Hi Jesse.
I haven't tried the commercial ($) version, but I did install the free
version, something like 3.8h.  I think 3.9 is now available.  It did
provide much better support for my Pro Audio Spectrum 16 and it also has
a good reference guide on setting the kernel parameters for the
supported sound cards.
Essentially, you download the update and put the updated files in
/usr/src/linux/drivers/sound (after moving the current sound directory
to sound.old!) and recompile the kernel, redo lilo and reboot.  The web
page has complete instructions as does the tgz file.
