I think so. Lots of people don't mention the version they are using.
As 1.7.2 is the most widely used, their comments apply often to this
version. In a few months, people will send comments of how nice
are graphics of the new 1.8.0 version. There is a big latency between
the release of version and its spreading all over the world.

It gives me an idea for a poll :)

 - How did you discovered freeciv ? Distrib / a link somewhere / friend ?
 - How did you get freeciv ? Auto installed Packages or
added by hand packages or ftp/www.freeciv.org.  
 - What version did you mainly play with for the last two months ?
